Hello 2020, year of mouse (or rat?)

明けましておめでとうございます。

2020年は、ネズミ年ですね。

ピータン家には、ネズミ君が遊びに来たようです。

コタツに入って、二人でまったり。

 みかんもあるよ。

コタツでみかんっていうのは、日本のお正月の風物詩ですね。

ところで、ピータンとネズミ君、大体同じくらいの大きさね。

A Happy New Year!

 2020 is a year of mouse (or rat) in Chinese Zodiac.

Pidan has had a "mouse visitor" and they are relaxing in "Kotatsu" which is a Japanese traditional heating appliance. 

 With some oranges! 

It is a Japanese tradition that eating orange when you are in "Kotatsu"!

 By the way, Pidan and mouse are more or less same size, aren't they?　

2020年の初夢はもう見ましたか？

どんな夢でしたか？

ピータンの夢には、一富士二鷹三なすび、全部登場したみたいね。

今年も、ピータンは絶好調です～。

5月1日。とうとう「令和」の幕開けです！

今年、2019年の4月30日と5月1日の二日間は、

日本国民にとって一大イベントとなる、非常に重要な日でした。

明仁天皇陛下が4月30日に退位され、

その翌日、5月1日に徳仁皇太子殿下が、天皇に即位されたのです。

日本には独自のカレンダーがあり、そのカレンダーでは、

年号は時の天皇陛下の即位からカウントされます。

明仁天皇の時代は「平成」と呼ばれていました。

これからの、徳仁天皇の時代は「令和」と呼ばれます。

日本では、全国各地でお祝いムード。

日本国民一体となって、新しい天皇陛下と新しい時代「令和」の到来を慶んでいます。

めでたいめでたい！

30th April 2019 and 1st May 2019 were very important days for Japanese citizens.

Japanese emperor, Akihito, abdicated from his crown on 30th April 2019 and the next day, on 1st May 2019, the new emperor, Naruhito, took over the crown!

Japan has their own unique calendar, in which the year is counted from the current emperor's coronation.

Akihito's era was called "Heisei".

Now, Naruhito's era is called "Reiwa".

Celebrations are held in all over the country and Japanese people are very happy to welcoming new emperor and new era, Reiwa.

 正直言うと、ピータンは、新しい元号は「飛誕（ピータン）」にならないかな～。

なんて野望を持っていました。

でも、それはピータンの夢の中で終わってしまったほうです。

残念ながら、新しい元号は「飛誕（ピータン）」ではありませんが、

「令和」っていうのも、ナカナカ良いじゃない、と思っているようです。

ピータンたちも皆、新時代「令和」が愛と幸福に満ちた時代になる事を

心から願っています！

To be honest, Pidan had an ambition that the new era should be called Pidan!

However, it has just ended in his dream.

Though unfortunately the new era is not called Pidan, Pidans are very happy about the new era's name, Reiwa.

And thy all are sincerely hoping the new era to be full of love and happiness!

４月！もう本格的に、春ですね。

あああ！もう４月！時バエは矢を好む！

日本では、４月は新学期が始まる月ですね。

そして４月は、日本列島がピンク色に染まる月でもあります。

ウソじゃないですよ！

もし機会があれば、４月初旬に、飛行機の窓から日本を見てみてください。

本当にピンクになるんです！

だから日本では、新入生は、桜吹雪にお祝いされながら、新しい学校に入学するのです。

なかなかステキでしょう？

も、ピータン達は、桜よりも花見だんごに興味があるみたいですね。

その名のとおり、花見だんごは、花見でドンちゃん騒ぎをしながら

食べるようにデザインされた団子でありますが、

桜なしで食べても美味しいのだ！

Time flies like an arrow, and now it's already April!

In Japan, April is the month when new a school year starts. 

Also, April is the month when Japanese  Archipelago is dyed with "PINK" by Cherry blossoms.

I'm not joking!

If you have a chance to look at Japan in bird's eye view in the the beginning of April, you will see. It really becomes pink!

So, it is Japanese tradition that new students starts their new school life celebrated by a storm of Cheery blossoms.

Sounds beautiful, isn't it?

However, Pidan are more interested in Japanese sweets, "Hanami-Dango". 

"Hanami" means "looking at flowers".

So, these Japanese sweets are designed to be eaten when people through a party under Cherry Blossoms.

But, it is always nice to eat them without Cherry Blossoms, too.

ピータン、また花見だんご食べてる。

今度はちゃんと、桜の花の下で、日本酒を一杯傾けながら。

日本の酔っ払い達は、こんな具合に、

桜の花の下でドンちゃん騒ぎをするのでございます。

Pidan is eating "Hanami-Dango" again!

 But this time, under the Cherry Blossoms with a cup of Sake (Japanese Rice Wine).

This is now Japanese drunken people through party under the Cherry Blossoms!

3月。春はもうすぐそこに。

もう3月。春節から一ヶ月たってしまったのですね。はやいなあ。

 ロンドンはまだ少し肌寒く、風も強いし雨も降ってる。

でも、水仙はあちこちで咲き始めたし、時々暖かい日もあります。

そして何よりも、日照時間が長くなってきているのです。

考えてみたら、もうすぐ春分の日ですね！

ロンドンにいるピータン達は、少しSAD症候群にかかり気味だったみたいですが、

春分の日が近づいてきてると考えただけで、ウキウキしてるようです。

 It's already March! 

One month has passed since we celebrated the Happy Chinese New Year.

Still a little bit chilly, windy and rainy in London, 

but Daffodils are starting to bloom here and there 

and we have warm days from time to time. 

And, most importantly, day time is getting longer.

When come to think of it, of course, Spring equinox day is just around the corner!

Though Pidans who live in London have had a little bit SAD symptoms these days, 

the idea of having Spring equinox day is approaching will cheer them up! 

ピータン、クチバシ似合うでしょ。

まあ、元々タマゴだからねえ。

もしピータンになってなかったら、ヒヨコになってたはずだから。

Pidan looks quite good with a beak!

Anyway, Pidan is originally an egg - would have been a chick 

if he had not been made into a Pidan.

Happy Chinese New Year!

春節おめでとうございます。

そして2月といえば、日本では節分ですね。

節分と言えば、豆まき。

そして、炒った大豆を自分の歳の数だけ食べる。

炒った大豆って、香ばしくて美味しいですよね。

子供の頃は、もっと食べたくって、早く大人になりたいと思ったものです。

And also, it is "Setsubun" which is a New Year in "Old Calendar" in Japan.

In Japan, people throw Roasted Soy Beans against Devil to sweep away bad spirits.

Then, they eat as many Soy Beans as the number of their age.

You know, Roasted Soy Beans are quite tasty with full of flavour!

When they are kids, they wish if they were older as they want to eat more. 

冬の夜長を、編み物あみあみ過ごすピータン。

Long winder nights are time for knitting.

Pidans have quite a lot of hobbies which keep them busy.

2019 is a year of wild boar.

Pidan has made friends with a "Uri-Bo", which is a wild boar piglet.

He is so cute, isn't he?

そして皆で、初日の出にお祈り。

今年の初日の出はつるっとしていてピータンっぽいなあ。

Let's go to see the first sunrise of the year and make a wish!

Pidan's feel vaguely familiar with the sunrise..

11月。それは、呑んだくれピータンができあがる月。

11月と言えば、ボジョレー・ヌーボー。

バブル時代の日本は、ボジョレーで大騒ぎしてましたが、
最近は若者のアルコール離れもあって、下火になってきているのでしょうか？

でも、ピータンはワインが大好き。
11月は呑んだくれる月なんですよ～。

November. The month when wine lovers receive the "preview wine" of the year's harvest from the Beaujolais region.

When the Japanese economy was booming (from late 80's to early 90's), affluent people in Japan competed to get nice bottles of Beaujolais Nouveau as early as possible and through a lavish party to celebrate the new wine. Nowadays, as Japanese economy being rather quieter and young people becoming more humble, we don't see such craze any more?

But, Pidans are wine lovers!
November is the month all the Pidans get drunken!

そして、11月と言えば読書の秋。

ピータンは、意外にも読書家です。
秋の夜長は、珈琲を飲みながら読書を楽しむピータン。
というか、ほぼシオリになってるなあ。

And, November is a month for reading.
Pidans love not only wine, but reading, too. (Don't get surprised!)
Pidan enjoys reading with a cup of coffer besides him at a long autumn night, though he is almost becoming a bookmark...

Roasted Chestnuts - 焼き栗はヨーロッパの冬の風物詩です

10月になって、ロンドンはすっかり冷え込んできました。 

そろそろ街角で、焼き栗売りの姿を見かける季節です。

ヨーロッパの街角で売ってる焼き栗って、とてもおいしそうに見えるのですが、

実際買ってみると、そんなにおいしいわけではないんですよねえ。

多分、期待が大きすぎるのかな。個人的には、日本の天津甘栗の方が好き。

さて、10月のピータンは、全身を使って栗の仮装。

もうすでに、ピータンでなくなってる。

We have just entered into October and it's very cold in London.

Maybe it's about the time when we start finding hot chestnuts sellers on the street.

The roasted chestnuts sold on European street looks so tempting, but when you actually buy and taste it, they seldom satisfy your expectations. Maybe your expectations are too high.

By the way, October Pidans are disguising as chestnuts.

They are so good that they don't look like Pidan at all anymore..

Rule the World

このところ、毎年毎年異常気象で、正常な気象がどんなだったか忘れてしまいそう。
これから地球はどうなっていくのかなあ。
なんてスケールの大きなことを考えながら、ピータンは天体観測中。
ちょっと目がレンズにあたってるけど、ピータンだから大丈夫。

Abnormal weather every year, so we cannot remember how the normal weather used to be any more. I wonder what direction our earth is going?
Worrying (?) or not worrying (?) about such global issues, Pidan is contemplating stars.
Though his eye is touching the lens, he is alright as he is a Pidan.

Some of you might remember that Pidan Rouge was clinging to human being's bag and about to go somewhere.

Pidan Rouge has come to Lake District! 

It's my first time to visit here.

So, I would like to start with Pub Crawling.

I was caught in a rain, and I was a bit hungry. 

So, I decided to have a supper at one of these Pubs, and it tuned out to be very nice!!!

Lucky me!!!

Trip to Myanmar (1) Departure

In December 2014, I was at London Heathrow Airport Terminal 4.

This was the biginning of my adventure in Myanmar.

Myanmar is a country which had been experiencing complex political situations but now the country is open and changing in an amasing speed.

Quite a few of my fellow travellers already visited Myanmar and they tell me stories of their amansing experiences in there.

I have been feeling  a little bit jealous.

But at last, I am travelling to Myanmar now.

I cannot be more excited!!!
